Examinations And Certification

 

The institution Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Pune, which imparts music education, is run by the trustee organisation ‘Bharatiya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal’. Examinations are conducted twice a year on behalf of Bharatiya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal in the month of July and December.  Every year students across the globe appear for Gandharva Mahavidyalaya exams.

 

The institution has created an independent syllabus, which is followed in these courses. When the syllabus for a particular exam is completed, the student is given permission to appear for the examination in either the July or December session. Students should note that Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and Bharatiya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal’s, Gandharva Mahavidyalaya are two different entities which conduct their own different examinations.

The Student who has passed Praveshika Purna examination and Appearing for the 10th Standard Examination of Maharashtra State Board is Eligible for the Additional Marks (*)

Please read the Exam Rules carefully :

  • Music examinations are conducted by Bharatiya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal in two sessions, i.e. July and December.
  • Examination forms for the July session can be submitted until 20th June. Forms will be accepted until 30th June with a late fee. (Dates can be changed without prior notice please contact office for exact dates)
  • Similarly, application forms for the December session can be submitted until 20th November. The last date for submission of examination forms along with a late fee is 30th November. (Dates can be changed without prior notice please contact office for exact dates)
  • Arrangements will be made to send an examiner to a centre only if there is a minimum number of 25 candidates at the examination centre.
  • If there are less than 25 candidates, an examiner will be sent only if the examination fee for 25 students for the Praarambhik examination is paid. The centre in-charge will have to make arrangements for the examiner’s stay and meals.
  • It is necessary to attach proof of age along with all examination forms.
  • Starting from the Praveshika Pratham exam, it is essential to attach a copy of the certificate of the previous examination along with the application form.
  • It is necessary to keep a gap of at least one year between two exams, after Praveshika Purna. 
  • Starting from Praveshika Purna, candidates will not be allowed to submit application forms for two different subjects in the same session. At the Praveshika Purna level, he/she will be able to appear for vocal and instrumental examinations together. However, this will not be permitted from Madhyama Pratham onwards. One cannot appear for vocal and tabla/dance in the same session.
  • From Madhyama Pratham, all vocal examinations will have to be taken with the accompaniment of the tanpura. The candidate will not be allowed to use the harmonium as accompaniment. Also, from this examination onwards, all tabla examinations will be conducted with the nagma.
  • It is necessary to pass both the written as well as practical examinations. From Praveshika Purna to Madhyama Purna, if a student fails to clear any one of these examinations, he/she will have to appear for both the written as well as oral practical examinations again.
  • Starting from Vishaarad Pratham, if a candidate has passed the written or practical examination with more than 50%, he/she will have to appear only for the section that has not been cleared. In such a case, he/she will have to attach a ‘no-objection certificate’ signed by the centre in-charge, as well as the full amount of the examination fee along with the application form. The candidate will have to appear for this re-examination in the next session. If he/she wishes to sit for the exam after one year, both the practical as well as written examinations will have to be taken again.
  • If a student has cleared the vocal Vishaarad examination and wishes to appear for the exam for an instrument such as the harmonium, sitar, etc, he/she can appear directly for Vishaarad Pratham. The same applies if a candidate has cleared the Vishaarad exam in an instrument, and wishes to appear for the vocal exam.
  • Any student who has completed a B.A. degree in Music can skip examinations up to Vishaarad Pratham.
  • Artists or music experts will be allowed to appear directly for Vishaarad Pratham, subject to the following conditions:
  • The candidate must be accredited with a B+ grade at All India Radio or Doordarshan.
  • The written and oral examinations will be conducted only at the Pune centre of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.
  • Examinations for light music will be conducted only in the December session.
  • Incomplete application forms will not be accepted.
